That’s right, Fast & Furious fans, we have an official release date for the next movie!
With āFast and Furious 6ā³ expected to be one of summer 2013ā²s biggest hit, the next sequel is speeding toward theaters in record time.
At a presentation to movie theater managers at the Cinema-Con convention in Las Vegas Tuesday, star Vin Diesel announced that āFast & Furious 7ā³ will come out on July 11, 2014. The fourth, fifth and sixth installments in the hit street racing series each came out two years apart, typically the shortest length between sequels in Hollywood.
But executives at Universal Pictures, owned by Comcast Corp., had previously considered shooting the sixth and seventh āFast & Furiousā movies together, so they already had a script for the next installment ready. And with āJurassic Park 4ā³ its only other big budget movie scheduled for summer 2014, the studio decided to rush ahead.
The movie is expected to start shooting within a few months. Director James Wan, best known for horror movies āSawā and āInsidious,ā is taking over for Justin Lin, who directed the third through sixth āFastā movies.
Diesel, who also serves as a producer, told the crowd at Caesarās Palace that he doesnāt see the franchise slowing down anytime soon. āOne of the reasons itās successful is we really think about where these pictures are going two or three down the road,ā he said. Diesel appeared with co-stars Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Gina Carano, Sung Kang and Tyrese Gibson.
Don’t forget to check out Fast & Furious 6 next month in theaters!
